A full size Mountain Bike made form Walnut Veneers.
The bike frame veneers have been cut from a single slab of Walnut and about 5 mm thick.
The Chainstays and Seatstays each have 12 x 1.5mm thick walnut veneers with two layers of carbon fibre for additional strength.
An extra layer of carbon fibre was added as a feature to both sides of the Chainstays.
All mechanical parts for example the headset, bottom bracket and seat post are fitted into a aluminium tube.
The bike was created in two halves. I carefully routed out for seat tube and stuck two halves together using epoxy.
A lot of patience was required for the detailed shaping with spokeshaves to acquire the desired shape.
The frame was epoxied with Westsystems and varnished with Epifanes UV protection.
The weight of the bike frame was 5kg.
The total bike weight with all parts is approximately 15kg.
